Mobiliteitskaart

Soon we will be travelling in an increasingly multi-modal manner. We will use different modes of transport in order to reach our final destinations, for both home-work and recreational travel.

The sustainable and efficient transport of people demands flexibility and that means flexible systems. If people today want to travel in a multi-modal way, they often need different tickets in order to make 1 journey: parking, bus, train, shared bike, etc. On top of this is the fact that the different modes of transport are in general not well geared to one another. Not really a motivation.

This is why the introduction of a single payer system is so important, both for the transport provider and for the user: With one and the same payment system the user can park, change from the train to the bus, to the shared electric bike or car. Card registration means the transport provider can better assess how the modes of transport should be deployed depending on time and how busy it is.

Technological Evolutions

In the past steps were already undertaken to offer different mobility services via one system. Just think of the SNCB’s Mobib card. Other systems have been developed by De Lijn, Cambio, P2D, Xximmo etc. In reality: the basic principle and the actual service provided by these cards varies. The transport providers themselves determine which services they provide and how they want to place them on the market.

The ‘mobility card’ project is not aimed at the production of a new card. It focuses on the technological evolutions which can improve the use of the mobility cards. Alongside this research has been carried out into whether the gathering and analysis of the data can be useful for mobility planning and for the commercial sector (businesses). In order to collect this data a minimum of 500 people are provided with a smartphone application with which we simulate the use of the mobility card.

Objectives

Within the project we want to achieve the following main objectives: What does the technology offer? How can the data obtained be used in mobility planning? In what way can the data and the use of mobility cards be ethically marketed?

Mobility Panel

500 people will registrate their movements for minimum 10 days in and round Antwerp with the TransMob app.
